There’s no two ways about it.
The devil must tempt us.
When we are tempted, we must be watchful of the devil tricks.
We must at all times understand our weaknesses and be a step ahead of the devil.
The devil understands out lust and desires.
He uses them to trick us into sinning against God.
That’s why we must pray and inspire ourselves with bible verses about running from temptations.
Yes, we must never yield to temptations because God is always watching.
I have struggled with fornication for many years.
And it has been one of my weaknesses in my struggle for salvation.
Just last year, I got married to one of the most beautiful persons on earth.
But that hasn’t stopped the devil of reminding me of my past.
Each day, I fight to keep my body and mind under control.
Because I know, if I fall to temptations, then there are repercussions.
Likewise, you must stay strong and resolute to all the tricks of the devil.
If you are reading this post, definitely, you are struggling with some form of temptation.
There is no reason to feel ashamed because we all have our weaknesses.
It could be drugs, adultery, fornication, stealing, corruption, homosexuality, drunkenness or even lying.
Whatever the case, I have put together flee from temptations bible verses to inspire you to never yield to the devil tricks.
Read and be blessed.
Flee from temptations bible verses
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation[a] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted[b] beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,[c] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it
2 Peter 2:9
if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.
2 Timothy 4:18
The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 5:8-9
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
2 Thessalonians 3:3
But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.
In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms
2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
2 Corinthians 12:10
That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong
“Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.
My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.
And lead us not into temptation,[a]
but deliver us from the evil one.
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
“I will save you from the hands of the wicked
and deliver you from the grasp of the cruel.”
1 John 5:18-19
We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. 19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.
More Do not yield to Temptation Scriptures
1 John 3:8
The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.
1 Corinthians 6:18
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.
Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness
1 Peter 2:11
Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul.
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.
2 Timothy 2:22
Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2 Corinthians 12:21
I am afraid that when I come again my God will humble me before you, and I will be grieved over many who have sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual sin and debauchery in which they have indulged.
1 Thessalonians 4:5
not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God
1 Corinthians 6:9
Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men
Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven,[a] Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
The story of Joseph’s temptation
The story of Joseph is an important passage of the bible that teaches us how to run away from temptations
Yes, we must not fall for temptation, and there is no reason to do that
Joseph was a slave in Potiphar’s house.
His presence in Potiphar’s house has brought unimaginable blessings to his master
Because of this, he was put in charge of the running of Potiphar’s affairs
Then came Potiphar’s wife. He liked Joseph and wanted to sleep with him
He tried several times but failed
Here are three important lessons we can learn from this bible story
1. Take responsibility
No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”
In the past, I have always looked for an excuse for my sins. Each time I am tempted, I always look for an explanation to continue with my action
The case of joseph was different. He said, “how could I do such a thing.”
He understood the gravity of his temptation and knew it was totally wrong to sleep with another man’s wife.
Likewise, we should learn to see our temptations far before they arrive.
The devil tempts us with our lust, and he places them in front of us
When you are faced with unimaginable temptations, and you feel weakness in your mind, you must take responsibility
2. Remember God
One crucial aspect of Joseph’s temptation was that he recognized God from the beginning
He had his options — to cheat on his master and betray his trust
But that wasn’t his thought from the moment he was tested by the devil
He was focused on pleasing God and not sinning against him
He said, “How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”
His master has been kind towards him. He has given him everything he wished for despite being a slave
So, there was truly no reason to disappoint him
On the flip side, he had to deal with Potiphar’s wife, who could influence the mind and goodwill of the husband towards him
But he never cared about all that. He set his mind towards God who seeth everything
And so, he did not give in (but flee from evil)
3. You must flee from the scene as soon as possible
But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house.
We all know our weaknesses. And there is little or nothing you can do about them (besides prayers)
We are not perfect, and even if we try, we may get overwhelmed by our lust
That’s why we must act like Joseph.
From the onset, he knew the right thing to do (like most of us)
He knew it was a grievous sin to make out with the master’s wife
And when he was faced with the temptation, he didn’t start making explanations of his actions
He didn’t start preaching to Potiphar’s wife about his beliefs
Neither did he start reading any laws to his mater’s wife
Instead, he bailed. He ran from the scene and never returned back
There are many times in the past I have fallen to temptation and my lust
And it is all because I took so much time trying to resist my temptations
You don’t resist your temptations while standing there — You run as fast as you can
May God, in His infinite mercy, continue to protect and strengthen you in the face of your weaknesses. Amen.
