You can’t love God and yet, revenge the sins of others.
When God comes into our lives, He pours his love into our hearts.
Immediately, we learn to love others and endure all our hurts and pains.
God’s love comforts us in our trials and teaches us to love our enemies.
More than ten years ago, before I gave my life to Christ, I took vengeance on one of my friends.
She was my girlfriend for about three years.
We were very fond of each other and in a very serious relationship.
In the first few months after we started dating, she was already cheating on me.
This continued for several years until the last one that broke the camel’s back.
I was so hurt because, despite my commitment and love, she was unconcerned.
I could remember, I had to beg and cry in her hostel to stop cheating on me.
But she was cold and just wanted to live her life on her terms.
And that’s when I said to myself, “I will pay her back the same way.”
I continued in the relationship for another year without minding all her actions.
I had already made up my mind to retaliate in the most terrible way. And I did.
I broke up with her when she needed me most.
The truth is, I behaved horribly and shamefully.
As Christians, we mustn’t pay back evil for evil.
Despite your hurt, God says, “vengeance is mine.”

Do not revenge: What the scripture teaches us.
1. An eye for an eye is a sin
There are no two ways about it.
You cannot revenge the sins of others and yet be on God’s side.
And that’s because God himself is love.
He has demonstrated his affection and unfailing love towards us from the beginning of the world.
He sent his only begotten son to die for our transgressions.
If he could forgive and let go of all our sins, why then must we repay those that hurt us?
The truth is, there is no joy in paying back.
Though you feel happy about your actions, you have separated yourself from the love of God.
When your friends or family members hurt you, learn to endure and even pray for them.
The scripture says,
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
Romans 12:14
2. Love your enemies. Forgive them.
Initially, it was difficult to love those that intentionally hurt me.
But, I have found out that forgiving others becomes easy as I continually practice it.
A few months ago, I was left disappointed by a friend in the bank.
Despite my frustration, I knew it was a plan from the devil.
I quickly said in my heart, “I forgive you.”
I wasn’t concerned if he would apologize or not (he never did).
But I was more concerned about keeping God’s commandments.
I have vowed in my heart to love my enemies and never wish them evil.
God is my refuge, and as long as I live, he will avenge those that hurt me.
The scripture says,
But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
