Life is not a bed of roses.
Sometimes, we are faced with insurmountable challenges that affect our faith.
We are not sure what steps to take or who to run to for help.
In such trying times, you must endure.
If you are hurt, disappointed, struggling with issues in life, there are bible verses about perseverance that can inspire you.
I’ve had my struggles in the past, but I overcame them in Christ.
In 2009, just before my fourth-year medical exams, I lost my mum.
My mum is an unbelievably nice woman.
All through the years, she has always encouraged me, even in hard times.
So, losing her was difficult to comprehend.
For months, I was discouraged and depressed.
But somehow, I understood that pain and suffering are the tricks of the devil.
And despite the sadness in my heart, I endured, remained focused, and passed my exams.
Therefore, at all times, we should know the signs of the devils’ work.
Unhappiness, depression, death, joblessness, series of disappointments, sickness are tools the devil uses to try your faith.
Always remember the words of Paul,
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13.

What does the bible say about perseverance, endurance, and determination?
When we are struggling to keep up with the gospel of Christ, we must remind ourselves of bible books about perseverance. One real example of a man that stayed firm in times of overwhelming temptations is Job.
In the book of Job, his faithfulness was well documented to inspire us in trying times. He stayed firm in righteousness and did not sin. Even in the midst of temptations from the devil and his wife, he refused to sin because he understood that God would make a way when there seem to be none.
There are four main qualities Job had. He was upright, perfect, he feared God, and he eschews evil. Job was a righteous man, and God was there to protect him. Before God allowed Job’s temptations, he was living a virtuous life, and God blessed him. He had ten children, seven sons, and three daughters. He was rich.
Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. Job 1:10
This verse is crucial for our faith. Before every temptation, as children of God, we must understand that the devil always seeks to cause harm in our lives. God has always protected us, and the devil avoids us. If we face difficulties, it is God that allows it to happen.
Job temptations and reward
In a day, Job lost his children. He lost his riches and servant. Yet, even in the face of persecution, he remembered God and prayed.
Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. Job 1:20-22
Despite all tribulations, he sinned not. Because of his perseverance and determination to be righteous, God blessed his last days on earth.
So the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses
Final words for encouragement
1. James 1:12 – God rewards faithfulness
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him
God almighty rewards faithfulness in him. He blesses us. He also allows us to be tempted. God knows the devil moves over the world seeking to cause confusion.
However, he wants us to stand firm and persevere in the face of obstacles. When you are being persecuted, you must remember the power of God. He will not forsake those that he loves. He will fight their battles and bring happiness into their lives.
James the apostle of Jesus Christ is saying; we must endure temptations when tried. We must not panic and run to sin when tempted. Instead, be resolute and determined knowing the tricks of the devil.
If we do this, there is a blessing that comes with it. God promises us protection, riches, and in the end, life everlasting.
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 1 Peter 1:6-8
2. Galatians 6:9 perseverance with good works
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not
We are all called into the faith of Christ according to his grace. We, therefore, must put up qualities that Christ possesses while on earth. He was resolute in the face of persecutions. He was determined. Christ never relented in his obedience to his father.
At all times, he continued to allow the will of God in his life. Until his death, he fulfilled the word of God.
In like manner, we must continue to trust and believe in God for our blessings. If he says, “run away from sin”, just do it. Even when the devil tempts you, Be firm in your heart like Job.
If we do not get tired of doing good works, our father will renew our strength and fight our battles.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:30-31
3. Hebrews 10:35-39 – bible verse about perseverance through hard times
Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. For, “Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.” But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.
Confidence and faith in God is an indispensable quality of a Christian. Faith gives us hope in trying times.
When you are going through temptations and troubles, remember to stand firm in your faith. Christ has promised us blessings. He has also promised to always be there for us in times of tribulations.
Because we know the devil will tempt us to fall into sin, we must persevere and endure because we know there is promise set aside for us that keeps his commandments.
For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:9
4. Romans 5:3-5 on perseverance builds character
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us
The phrase “glory in your suffering” reminds us that we are not exempt from persecutions. Job was a righteous and upright man, yet our almighty father allowed him to be tempted even to the loss of all his children. Therefore, we must remind ourselves that we must face tribulations, and when we do, we must rejoice in the lord.
Through temptations, troubles, disappointment, and suffering we must persevere because we know the reward in the end. He has promised us everlasting life, that through our newfound character in the face of persecution, we will have hope for it. So, do not despair, stay strong and remain steadfast in Christ.
But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats[a]; do not be frightened. 1 Peter 3:14
5. 2 Timothy 2:12 Suffering brings blessings
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us
Imagine a world when God has decided to deny us. If he withdraws his protection over our lives, it will only take the devil a second to end our lives.
God wants us always to remember and love him. He wants us to keep his commandments for our own protections. If we decide to live in sin and forsake his ways, then he will deny us when we need him too.
But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 10:33
6. Hebrews 12:1-2 perseverance in hard times brings reward
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God
At all times, we must follow the ways of Jesus Christ. He ran the race like he never had hope. He was in the beginning, yet humbled himself through the sufferings of the world because of a better hope.
Despite humiliation and shame, he continued in the will of God. Finally, in the end, he sits at the right hand of the father who has promised to make his enemies his footstool.
During temptations, we must remember that life is a race; The race of salvation. We must remind ourselves about being like Christ. God always blesses us when we keep his commandments. God uplifts us when we follow his ways. Therefore, lets us persevere in hard times knowing that we have a reward in the end.
As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. James 5:11
