There is only one place to find true happiness.
And that’s in Christ Jesus.
Sometimes we are so disappointed in life that we continually search for happiness.
And in doing so, we find pleasure in sin.
Over the years, I have come to realize that true happiness comes from God.
Back then, in medical school, I was addicted to cigarette smoking.
As much as I tried, I could not stop smoking.
I became hopeless, unhappy, and miserable.
But somehow, God intervened and gave me my happiness back.
If you are troubled, I have compiled bible verses about happiness to bring gladness to your heart.

Bible verses about happiness explained
1. Philippians 4:11-13 on Being contented and happy like Paul
Being contented and happy in Jesus Christ is an essential tool for any Christian because you may continue to strive for things of this world that take your happiness away. Here is Paul words in the book of Phillipains 4: 11- 13 KJV
“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
To gain satisfaction in your soul, you must learn to be content with what God has blessed you with in life. If you don’t feel contented like Paul, it becomes difficult to find happiness.
When you are in need, you need to trust God and understand that he knows all things and will bless you at the right time.
Therefore, whether hungry, sick, unhappy, or jobless, you must realize God is watching and will always be there for you.
Here is another Paul’s appeal to the Hebrew Christians in Hebrews 13: 5 – 6
“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
2. Psalm 37:4 On finding happiness in God ways
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
While we go through challenges in life, we must understand that God understands our problems and can change our lives in seconds. Therefore, we must not curse God with our lips or lose confidence in his mighty power.
We must stay firm in the work of Christ and follow him through obeying his commandment. With his, David said, he will give us the desires of our heart.
3. Ecclesiastes 3: 11,12 on always being joyful in Christ
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live“
God created the world and everything that is on it. He maketh all things at his time and even to the end of the world.
Though you find yourself in an unhappy situation, you must never forget to be joyous and thankful to God. Then, at the right time, he will shower down his blessing from heaving.
Therefore, happy or not, sick or healthy, learn to do the good works of the Lord always and put your trust in Christ.
4. Philippians 4: 4 on Praising God always and be happy
“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice”
Rejoice in the Lord always and continue to sing his praises. Bless his name even in difficulties, and understand that he will never forsake you.
Whatever troubles you encounter, learn to praise God for everything and be joyous, knowing that he will never let you down.
Here’s verse 6
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”
Always be open to God about your challenges. Pray about them and continue to be faithful. He will always put a smile on your face.
5. Ecclesiastes 2:26 on pleasing God and being happy
“God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy to those who please him. But if a sinner becomes wealthy, God takes the wealth away and gives it to those who please him. This, too, is meaningless–like chasing the wind”
It is pretty common to see unbelievers chasing money at every cost. This should not be so with Christians who understand that pleasing God is the only path to true riches.
This is because “The Almighty God” can take your fortune away in a second and all your pursuit for wealth becomes meaningless. So, strive for knowledge, wisdom, and happiness from God, who added no sorrow to your blessings.
“The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it” Proverbs 10:22
6. Proverbs 17:22 on Happiness heals the heart
“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”
Being happy is a sure way to be confident in Christ through faith. You know a solution is coming, and you are already rejoicing beforehand.
Being sad and hopeless is not God’s purpose for you. If you believe in Christ, stay firm and hope in him always.
7. Psalm 16:8-9 on being always glad and praising God
“I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;my body also will rest secure”
The devil aims to kill and destroy. He tries to make the life of a Christian miserable to dampen your faith in God.
But don’t be shaken no matter what situation you find yourself in. Instead, stay firm in the faith of Christ and be glad, always knowing that your future and happiness are secured.
8. Galatians 5: 22 – 23 on happiness is a sign of the Holy Spirit.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law”
Together with peace of the mind, doing good to all men, faithfulness in Christ, and self-control, being joyous is a gift of the holy spirit in your life.
If you believe in Christ, there is no reason to panic or be anxious. He is a friend that is there to help you solve all the problems in his time. So, be glorious and happy knowing that, as a child of the most high God, he knows your problems and will put a smile on your face.
9. James 1:2-3 (KJV) on being glad no matter the situation
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.”
As Christians, we continue to meet challenges every day. Whatever temptation the devil has set for you, always know it’s a trial for your faith.
Never lose hope to make the devil win. Instead, stay strong and continue to be joyous in Christ’s work.
10. Romans 15:13 on Joy and hope
“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost”
There are many times I have gone through difficulties, but I know my God knows all things and will provide in his time. Being hopeful and Joyous in Christ is a great gain. It relaxes your mind knowing the future is bright for those who trust in God.
